How does the process work

From our first look at your tree to a clean, tidy and safe garden.

From our initial site visit to view your trees, our aim is to understand your motivation for the tree work so we can advise you on the best course of action available at the best possible price. We will provide you with a written itemised quotation of the works to be undertaken.

  1. 01

    Tree Inspection

As part of the quotation process we carry out a visual inspection to determine any problems or causes for concern e.g. presence of decay, deadwood, problem or defective branches etc. We discuss your requirements and offer our recommendation for work required.

  2. 02

    Written quotation

Following our initial visit to inspect the tree, we will supply you with a free written quotation detailing our findings and recommendations for work to be completed.

  3. 03

    Commencing work

Once our quotation has been accepted we will schedule the works to begin on a date that is convenient for you.

  4. 04

    Completion of work

Once a job has been completed, all brush and timber will be removed and the site will be left clean and tidy and safe.

On every job

  • A risk assessment is completed before work begins
  • All operatives hold relevant NPTC qualifications for operating equipment (National proficiency Test Council)
  • Each operative wears PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Climbing and lowering equipment is used
  • Health & safety guidelines are followed

Nothing goes to waste

All brush is recycled for wood chip mulch.

All large timber is recycled for firewood or wood carving.

We only leave timber if you have asked us to do so.

About RBS Treeworks

Climbing trees for a living since 2005.

The company was started by Craig Ryan in 2005, after completing his National Certificate in Arboriculture at Moulton Agricultural College in Northampton. He successfully ran RBS Treeworks in Northampton for 8 years before relocating to Hampshire.

Over the years we have been fortunate enough to work on varied and challenging projects which have allowed us to demonstrate our skills. It has resulted in a very happy customer base.

We have a genuine interest in the wellbeing of trees and this is demonstrated in our work. Removing a tree should always be a last resort.

We removed a large snapped Cedar branch from a conservatory roof in Romsey.

Storm-snapped Cedar branches lying across a neighbour’s shed

Southampton, January 2020

Storm damage

Strong winds snapped three branches from a Cedar and dropped them on the neighbours shed. We used rigging to secure them, to stop them moving unsafely while we worked, then cut up and removed the branches from the shed and garden.

Southampton, July 2011

American Redtail rescued

A bird sanctuary used our services to rescue the bird of prey which had escaped. It was stuck up the top of a 40ft Ash tree as the foot strap had become entwined on a branch. The bird was rescued unharmed.

Frequently asked questions

Before you call.

Protection orders, fungi, overhanging branches and what happens to the cuttings.

My tree has a protection order on it? Do I need permission before work is carried out?

Yes. If your tree has a protection order on it or if you live in a conservation area, an application needs to be made to the local authority seeking permission for the work. This rule also applies if you are looking to remove the tree. However, permission is not usually required for the removal of deadwood, snapped branches or dead trees. We regularly speak with many different authorities on this matter and can carry out the application process for you at no extra cost.

What insurance do you have?

We have public liability insurance to the value of £5million which is industry specific. This covers us for any damage caused to customer property or persons.

My tree has fungi growing on it. Does this mean the tree has to be removed?

No, not necessarily. Removing a tree should always be a last resort. We look at a number of factors when assessing a tree, which is showing signs of decay. After assessing these factors, we will recommend a course of action which we believe to be suitable. This may include further assessment of the decay using specialist equipment. Based upon these findings, we will recommend only necessary remedial work, which could mean a crown reduction or removal of branches that are cause for concern. In some circumstances this could also include the removal of the tree if the decay is too advanced.

We have a large tree in our garden that we want removing. How would you do this?

When large trees cannot be felled, we climb and dismantle them with the aid of a rope and harness. Specialist equipment (when required) is used to lower the branches to the ground to avoid any damage to the surrounding area.

My neighbour has a tree which overhangs my garden. Am I allowed to cut off the offending branches?

The answer is yes. However, this all depends on whether the tree is protected or in a conservation area. If this is not the case, removal of limbs should be cut back to the boundary line using correct pruning cuts. The removal of large branches should only be carried out by qualified professionals in the interest of safety. Any work carried out should not be to the detriment of the tree. In the interest of being a good neighbour, we would always recommend you discuss the problem with the owner of the tree before undertaking any work. If you are lucky your neighbour may even contribute to the cost...

Will you take away all of my tree cuttings?

As part of your quote, we will include removing everything from the site leaving it clean and tidy. We only leave timber if you have asked us to do so.
